Past and Present Tense
Things that are happening now are written in the present tense.
Things that have already happened are written in the past
tense. The clues for verbs written in the past tense are -ed
endings.
Task One
Match up the words on cards, one verb is written in the present
tense, one in the past tense. Write the words in a list under
these two titles:

These sentences are all written in the present tense. You must
copy the sentence then write each sentence again in the PAST TENSE.
The first one has been done for you:
Joe is washing his bike.
Yesterday Joe washed his bike.
- Joe is kicking a can.
- Joe is climbing a ladder.
- Joe is watching a video.
- Joe is reading a comic.
- Joe is painting the shed.
Task Three
Copy these sentences into your books. You must
only write in the word in the bracket that is in the PAST TENSE.
- Tim and Colin (watch, watching, watched) a good film last
week.
- Mr Joule (jump, jumped, jumping) when Zoë crept up behind
him.
- The children (clapped, claps, clap) after the team scored.
- Yesterday I (sung, singed, sang) in a concert.
- When the dog got out of the river she (shook, shaked, shaking)
all over her owner.
- On Friday I (feeled, felt, feeling) very poorly.
- I got really (excite, exciting, excited) before I went to
the cinema.
- Last year I (goes, gone, went) to Greece on holiday.
