Picasso's
Blue Period
I
always like starting the year looking at Picasso's Blue
Period portraits. The children draw portraits of themselves
(or each other) in pen. These are photocopied so that
blue brusho can be applied, in washes, on top to give
different tones of blue. Last years pictures were very
blue but this scanned photo doesn't really do them justice.
This year's, digitally photographed ones, look better
but a bit pale in comparison!

The
Four Musicians
We
spent some time looking at Picasso's picture, 'The Three Musicians'.
Four of the children posed with instruments while the rest of
the class drew them normally. Four of the pictures are combined
into one below. Then the class drew the children in the style
of Picasso. Four of these pictures were enlarged onto card, ripped
out and made into a large collage. The collage was painted with
a mixture of acrylic paints and inks.
