Cinema Tickets
Ticket design copyright of Virgin Cinemas Ltd

It's always good to look at a lot of different texts. There's many more examples of print around than just books and newspapers. Here's some activity ideas/discussion points that use cinema tickets as their focus. Similar activities can be produced for bus, train, footbal match and theatre tickets.

Things to discuss...

What are the tickets for? How can you tell?

What information can you get from the tickets?

  • film title
  • film classification
  • chain and location of cinema
  • screen and seat numbers
  • date, day and time of film
  • price of ticket
  • ticket number

How is the information organised on the ticket?

  • film title easily visable in capitals on the ticket
  • format of time, date and money

Which information is most important? Does that affect where it is placed on the ticket?

Other ideas...

You could create some simple comprehensions on a collection of tickets.

The children could design their own tickets. They would need to think about what information needs to be included on the ticket and display the information suitably on their own tickets.

Tickets could be used as inspiration for creative writing. Old film titles ( from films the children are unfamiliar with ) could inspire the children's own stories. The loss of a ticket often forms a good story starter.
