'Why We Got Chucked Out Of The
Inter-Schools Football Competition'
By David Ross
|
Some ideas for follow on class/homework activities:
Ashton "Wimpy" Jackson - The Goal Keeper
Poor old Ashton "Wimpy" Jackson let in twenty-two
goals in the first football match. Needless to say his team-mates
aren't very pleased. Help him come up with twenty-two excuses
as to why he let in the goals!
The Brown Brothers
We've heard the account of the game from one
of the Brown brothers. We'll hear the other brother's side of
things later on in the book. Imagine you are the other brother.
Write your account of the incident.
Gary Sandford's Mother
"I'm not sure what the exact reason for us being
thrown out was.... But Gary Sandford's mother didn't help."
The team Captain, Sarvindar Patel, obviously
thought that Gary Sandford's mother was one of the reasons that
they lost the football game. We haven't read about that yet so
what I'd like you to do for homework is to write how you think
Gary's mother caused the team to lose.
The Match Report
How would a report on the football match be different
if it was written for (a) Skimpole Street School's newspaper,
(b) Stapleton Road's school newspaper, or (c) a local newspaper?
Choose to write one of the three reports. Alternatively you could
write and perform a radio commentary for the match.
The Referee's Letter
The referee had rather an eventful match! Needless
to say he wasn't very pleased about some of the goings on in
the game. Imagine that you're the referee. Write a letter of
complaint to Skimpole Street's headteacher. Remember to mention
all the important events such as the Browns getting sent off,
the incident with the dog and Gary Sandford's Mother!
